Yudh Abhyas 2018 will see over 350 Troops from the 15 Garhwal Rifles of Indian Army along with a similar number of US troops who will participate in the 14th Joint Military Exercise – Yudh Abhyas 2018. The annual exercise which was held in Washington last year highlights expanding US-Indian defence relations. Yudh Abhyas, which commenced in 2004 under is meant to enhance interoperability between US and Indian defence forces.

Yudh Abhyas translating to War-Practice will be held in Chaubattia in Uttarakhand from September 16 to September 29. As per secondary research by EurAsian Times, both the two sides will get familiar with each other’s organisational structure, weapons, equipment, training and tactical drills. From the Indian side, 15 Garhwal Rifles will participate in the training mission.
Over the years the two countries have decided to progressively expand the scope and content of this joint exercise. Exercise Yudh Abhyas 2018 will see a Division Headquarter based Command Post Exercise, an Infantry Battalion carrying out Field Training Exercise and meeting on issues of mutual interest by experts of both nations.
The defence and security cooperation between India and the US have steadily developed in recent years with the two sides signing the path-breaking Communications Compatibility and Security Agreement (COMCASA) pact allowing technology transfer from the US to India. The two sides will also conduct a tri-Service amphibious exercise off the eastern coast of India in 2019.
