Oscar winner A R Rahman has responded to the criticism he received for ‘his daughter’s face covered with a veil’, reported Times Now. A R Rahman’s daughter Khatija recently shared the stage with her father during an event to celebrate 10 years of Slumdog Millionaire. The music of the film gained Rahman two Academy accolades.

Several users commented that they had not expected his daughter to be dressed so conservatively, assuming that he had forced her to follow such a dressing style.

Addressing the controversy, the Dil Se composer on Thursday tweeted a photograph from his handle of his two daughters and wife, posing along with Nita Ambani. The hashtag accompanying the picture says #freedomtochoose.

While Khatija is donning a veil in the said picture, her sister Raheema and mother Sairaa are not.

Khatija has also reportedly clarified that she was not forced by anyone to cover her face.  She took to Facebook to share her thoughts on the matter. Khatija clarified that the veil has nothing to do with her parents.

“The veil has been my choice with complete acceptance and honour. I’m a sane mature adult who knows to make my choices in life,” she said.

She added that everybody has the right to dress according to their choice and that she has been doing the same. Khatija also urged people to not jump to conclusions or judge others without understanding the situation.

Rahman has three children – Khatija, Raheema, and Ameen. Khatija has also sung for her father in Enthiran
