Azerbaijan Set To Attract More Tourists From India And China

Azerbaijan, in the Caucuses region, is a country that straddles both Eastern Europe and Western Asia. Located on the Caspian Sea, there are quaint subtropical seaside resorts. There are hillside towns that harbour ancient mosques and minarets, as well as some of the most impressive modern architecture in the world in the form of the Flame Towers in Baku.

Azerbaijan Planning Direct Flights to India, Pakistan To Boost Tourism

Azerbaijan is hoping to get a boost to its tourism sector from around the world, with the opening of the country’s tourism representative office in the UAE, India and China. Through these representative offices, the Azerbaijan Tourism Board is looking to develop mutual relations with key tourism and hospitality entities, companies and organisations.

The Azerbaijan Tourism Board (ATB) organised a meeting with local tourism countries from UAE, China and India. 80 tourism companies represented Azerbaijan at the meeting with the UAE tour operator. During the bilateral discussions, the guests were provided with detailed information on tourism in the country.

Azerbaijan Tourism Board, the national promotion body,  designed to support the growth of Azerbaijan’s tourism industry, launched its marketing campaign ‘Take another look’ at the 26th edition of SATTE 2019, South Asia’s leading travel show.

As part of its strategy to present a new portrait of the country, enhance its destination value and double the current inbound tourism by 2023, ATB launched its marketing campaign in India at the annual three-day B2B trade show designed to bring together the key travel industry leaders in the region.

The brand positioning and identity is an invitation to attract travellers to consider Azerbaijan from a unique point of view and discover its untold stories and secrets. Situated at the crossroads of Eastern Europe and Western Asia, Azerbaijan has nine of the world’s eleven climate zones, offering travellers a European experience at affordable prices all year round.

These new initiatives are expected to improve Azerbaijan’s ranking among countries with a high tourism contribution towards national GDP, according to the World Travel and Tourism Council 2018 Impact Report.

The tourist flow between the countries has amounted to 112,000 people in January-September 2019. Tourism from India to Azerbaijan increased by 80 per cent in 2019. With a direct flight from Delhi and a simplified electronic visa procedure for Indian passport holders, Indian travellers have taken great interest in Azerbaijan.

The number of Chinese tourists visiting Azerbaijan amounted to 20,000 in January-September 2019. This is a 64 per cent increase compared to the same period of 2018. Since the end of 2018, Azerbaijan’s official tourism representation has been operating in Dubai, Mumbai, and Beijing.

Azerbaijan is ranked in top 5 excursion tour destination in National Geographic Traveller Awards 2019, an annual traveller award held by National Geographic Traveller magazine.
