As tensions rise between India and China, experts in Beijing have lashed out at US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo for inciting the Indian government against China.
China vs World: Led By India, Global Powers Unite To Counter China’s ‘Wolf Warrior’ Diplomacy?
Earlier, Mike Pompeo hailed India’s ban on 59 Chinese apps. “We welcome India’s ban on certain mobile apps that can serve as appendages of the CCP’s surveillance state,” Pompeo said at a briefing. “India’s Clean App approach will boost India’s sovereignty. It will also boost India’s integrity and national security, as the Indian Government itself has stated.”
The Indian government had earlier banned 59 Chinese apps on national security grounds after 20 Indian soldiers were killed in a savagery border clash with Chinese PLA troops along the Line of Actual Control (LAC) in Ladakh last month.
On the same day, the White House confirmed that it was “closely monitoring” the India-China border situation, as was US President Donald Trump, and supported a peaceful resolution of the conflict. “ And he [Mr. Trump] said that China’s aggressive stance along the India-China border fits with the larger pattern of Chinese aggression in other parts of the world. And these actions only confirm the true nature of the Chinese Communist Party,” White House Press Secretary Kayleigh McEnany told reporters.
Chinese state media – the Global Times lashes out at Mike Pompeo and writes – he (Pompeo) keeps broadcasting lies and deceiving people – intended to do was nothing but seize every possible opportunity to fan the flames of hatred against China.
GT further writes that India appears to be an ideal choice for the US to be manipulated and used against Beijing. To Pompeo, there might be a no better opportunity than the Indian people and government, since he needs to pour a little more gasoline on the fire to accomplish the objective of making India hateful of China while enticing Delhi to join US’ anti-China crusade.
GT says that Mike Pompeo was just taking advantage of rising nationalism in India. The roaring patriotism has to some extent affected Delhi’s rationality in security policy-making. Pompeo tried to ride on this momentum to press the Indian government so as to assure the US’ political interests by interfering in India’s domestic affairs. This is the biggest threat to India’s national security. Ironically, however, Pompeo is pretending to strive for the good of India.
GT further laments Pompeo and writes that he was once the head of the US Central Intelligence Agency (CIA), it is not shocking to see him act as a self-righteous moralist whose expertise is provocation and subversion. Now, he can openly do whatever he once did behind closed doors, and he can do it with high-sounding justifications.
