BRICS SUMMIT: Russian President Vladimir Putin and Chinese President Xi Jinping discussed the implementation of bilateral agreements that were reached during the July visit of the Chinese leader to Moscow. The conversation between the heads of the two states was held on the eve of the BRICS summit, which will be held in Xiamen on September 4-5.
“I am very pleased to have the opportunity to exchange opinions on how the plans that we set for you during your visit to Moscow in July are being fulfilled,” Putin said to Xi Jinping. The Russian president stressed that at that time “very meaningful talks” took place in Moscow. ”
The PRC President agreed with such an assessment, noting that during that visit it was possible to discuss bilateral relations and international problems. “It is gratifying that our ministries and departments are working to implement all agreements and achieve results,” Xi Jinping said.
The Chinese leader also told Putin about the city of Xiamen, who was elected to host the BRICS summit. The PRC President noted that the university located here has a monument to the Russian poet Mikhail Lermontov, and it is set opposite the monument to the Chinese thinker Confucius. “It must be that it says that the exchange of cultures between Russia and China is very appreciated here,” he said.
Xi Jinping remembered Lermontov’s poem “Parus”, which tells of a stubborn struggle and a firm will: according to the Chinese leader, in the area of Xiamen hard work is also in high esteem. “I hope that both our countries will move forward so that the ship of our bilateral relations goes to a great voyage on full sails,” the PRC President stated.
Putin thanked his Chinese counterpart for the invitation to visit this city. He recalled that Xi Jinping worked here for many years. “Xiamen looks great, makes an impression of a prosperous city, including the results of your labour,” the Russian president said.
He wished Xi Jinping success in holding the BRICS summit. “For our part, we will do everything we can to ensure that the summit is held at the highest level,” Putin said.
