The country promotes nationalistic education for those educated and awarded Gexe Lharampa – the highest academic degree in Tibetan Buddhist studies in India, a Chinese official from ethnic and religious affairs bureau told the Global Times.
Those Monks who acted inappropriately at the patriotic classes or exhibited “any signs of separatist intent” are strictly monitored and eventually forbidden from teaching Buddhism, stated the Chinese official.
China has its own standards to award Gexe Lharampa, and all the monks have to clear Chinese Buddhist tests. Those monks who are conferred with a degree outside China, are not recognized by Beijing and are thus not eligible to teach Buddhism in China.

Some 105 Buddhists Monks in the Tibet Autonomous Region (TAR) have been conferred the Chinese Buddhist version of the degree since 2004, according to the Xinhua News Agency.
