China wants India to sign the Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) to be part of the Nuclear Supplier Group (NSG). China emphasised saying India, being a Non-NPT country must reach an agreement to become part of the group.
China is against India’s entry into the 48 member Nuclear Supplier Group on the ground that India is not a signatory to the Non-Proliferation Treaty. Although nuclear powers like USA and Russia have supported India’s entry into the NSG based on its current non-proliferation record.
China, France, Russia, Britain, and the US have settled their two meetings to discuss issues related to nuclear disarmament, nuclear non-proliferation and peaceful uses of nuclear energy.
Mr. Geng Shuang, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman, said at the end of the successful conference the member countries reached an important accord to jointly support the responsibilities for international peace and security.
“We will uphold the NPT mechanism. We underscore its importance as the cornerstone of the international non-proliferation system and also an important component of international security. We promise to enforce the NPT fully and comprehensively,” Shuang added.
