China Receives 1st Batch of Russian S-400 Triumf Missile Systems

China has received the first batch of Russian S-400 Triumf missile systems, according to a Russian military-diplomatic source. Earlier an acceptance certificate was signed for the delivery of the first batch of advanced S-400 air defence systems. The systems were passed over to China’s ownership once the documents were signed,” the source said.

Reports on Russia signing a contract with China for sales of S-400 air defence systems came to light in November 2014, which was confirmed in November 2015, Russian president’s adviser Vladimir Kozhin. China became the first international customer of these advanced systems.

Russia’s S-400 Triumf is the newest long-range air defence system that went into service in 2007. It is developed to track and destroy aircraft, cruise and ballistic missiles and other surface targets. The S-400system can destroy aerodynamic targets at a range of up to 400 kilometers and tactical ballistic targets flying at a speed of 4.8 km/s at a distance of up to 60 kilometers.

The S-400 system’s radars can identify aerial targets at a distance of up to 600 kilometers, while its surface-to-air missiles can hit aerodynamic targets at altitudes of 10,000-27,000 meters and ballistic threats at altitudes of 2,000-25,000 meters.
