China Urges India And Pakistan To Maintain Regional Peace And Stability

The top Chinese diplomat has asked India and Pakistan to preserve the sovereignty and territorial integrity. Chinese diplomat remarks came after India and Pakistan launched air strikes against each other.

China’s foreign ministry said in a statement unveiled on its website that the Chinese government’s top diplomat, State Councillor Wang Yi made the remarks on tensions between India and Pakistan in a telephone conversation with Pakistani Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi.

“Qureshi telephoned Wang to inform him of the latest developments in the conflict and to express the hope that China would continue to play a constructive role in easing tensions”, the statement said.

The statement released by the Chinese Foreign Ministry said: “Wang reiterated his hope that both Pakistan and India will exercise restraint and earnestly fulfil their commitments to preventing the expansion of the situation and the sovereignty and territorial integrity of all countries should be respected”.

After at least 40 Indian paramilitary police died in a suicide car bombing by Pakistan-based militants in Pulwama district of Kashmir, India launched an air strike on what it said was a militant training base. At the Russia-India-China meeting, India’s External Affairs Minister slammed Pakistan for harbouring terrorists. In regards to the February 14 Pulwama terror attack, she said: “this terrorist attack is the direct result of the impunity and cover provided to the JeM and its leaders by the Pakistani side.” It is the first time that the two nuclear-armed powers have launched air strikes against each other.
