Chinese Army Gearing Up For “Mountain Warfare” With Tactics, Training and Technology

Is Chinese Army training for Mountain Warfare as the country shares a rugged, mountainous and a contentious border with India? In what may be an attempt to equip the Chinese troops for mountain warfare, Beijing has reportedly inducted ‘Sniper Platoon’ of a Mobile Infantry Battalion in the People’s Liberation Army.

According to media sources quoting the Indian defence ministry, the ‘Sniper Platoon’ of the Mobile Infantry Battalion originally made its appearance during the recently conducted drills of the Western Theater Command which is the five war zones of the Chinese PLA. The headquarters of Western Theater Command is located in Chengdu and are primarily trained for mountain warfare.

“PLA is approving a Sniper Platoon to each combine battalion similar to US Marine Corps to provide long-range battlefield surveillance and accurate firepower support mission to combined Battalions,” a defence ministry official said.

The Sniper Platoon is outfitted with Type-10 large caliber range sniper rifles with special bullets and a maximum effective range of 1500 meter. It is also furnished with piercing detonation shells which can be fired at military vehicles, light armoured vehicles, aircraft and other soft-skinned military facilities.

With Sniper Platoon in each combine battalion, the Chinese troops will also induct Anti Jamming Communication Equipment for countering any efforts of the enemy to hamper their communication system during the war. The antennae will boost the Anti-Jamming capabilities of PLA Units in battle and improve security and reliability of communication.

‘China missile-borne anti-interference antennae for its state-owned Beidou navigation satellite system will be delivered to PLA unit this year. China made missile-borne anti interference Antenna will permit PLA units to counter the enemy jamming system in battle,’ according to the sources.

As earlier reported by EurAsian Times, Beijing plans to improve its mass surveillance abilities with camera-equipped drones designed to look like doves. The surveillance drones are outfitted with fluttering wings permitting them to plunge, dip and soar just like real birds. The drones are extremely similar to the doves and have been spotted flying in flocks of real birds, helping them to avoid discovery by the radars.
