CM disputes claim of LG on settling grievances received from public

Puducherry, June 2 — Chief Minister V Narayanasamy on Tuesday disputed the claim of Lt.Governor Kiran Bedi that she had settled 50,000 grievances received from the public during the last four years in office.

In a daily press briefing audio clip sent to the media here, he claimed it as `a total lie`.

The Chief Minister, who had been at loggerheads with the Lt Governor on several occasions said that he read in newspapers that Ms Bedi had claimed to have settled 50,000 complaints received from public during the last four years since she has been as Lt Governor here.

He said that office of Lt Governor is not a bureau to receive the public complaints. `Lt Governor should function in tandem with elected government and this was very clearly stated by Madras High Court in its Order on a petition filed the Parliamentary Secretary to Chief Minister’.

Mr Narayansamy said the High Court had in very clear manner pointed out that the Lt Governor could not act independently and if there was any difference with the elected government on any issue she must refer the issue to President.

`Lt Governor has no constitutional right to interfere in the routine administration of the government`, the Chief Minister remarked.
