Donald Trump Thanks Vietnam For 20 Billion Boeing Deal

US President Donald Trump has hailed Vietnam for approving an order of over $20B Boeing jets. President Trump, who is in Hanoi for his second summit with North Korea’s leader Kim Jong-un made the comment on Wednesday.

Vietnam May Edge Thailand, Singapore To Host Trump-Kim Summit

“We are going to be signing some very big trade deals,” Trump said at the top of a bilateral meeting with Vietnamese President Nguyen Phu Trong, adding that Hanoi was “buying a lot of different products from the United States … which we appreciate.”

VietJet is reportedly buying 100 Boeing 737-Max jets and 215 GE/CFM joint venture engines, and Bamboo Airways is buying 10 Boeing 787-9 jetsVietnam Airlines is also buying $100 million in services and technology from Sabre Corp.

The purchase came as Trump started the first day of the landmark summit by having dinner with Kim amid pressure back at home, with his former attorney unloading on him during a high-profile House hearing. Cohen’s explosive testimony stole media attention from the dinner in Hanoi.

The White House, meanwhile, announced what the world leaders had for dinner, further clamping down on media coverage of the historic summit by barring four American journalists from covering the next event.

The two-hour dinner involved Shrimp Cocktail, Grilled Sirloin with Pear Kimchi, Chocolate Lava and Dried Persimmon Punch

“This summit provides an opportunity for the American presidency to display its strength by facing vigorous questioning from a free and independent news media, not telegraph weakness by retreating behind arbitrary last-minute restrictions on coverage,” White House Correspondents’ Association President Olivier Knox said in a statement, adding that the group “strenuously objects to the capricious decision.”
