When Pakistan Lost 129 Soldiers in Avalanche

7 April 2012, an avalanche hit a Pakistani military base in Gayari, near the Siachen Glacier, entangling around 140 Pakistani soldiers and civil contractors under extreme snow. The incident happened at an altitude of about 13,000 feet which is 180 miles northeast of Skardu, the capital of Baltistan. Later on, Pakistan officially declared that the 129 soldiers and 11 contractors dead.
