Grand Alliance: NC-PDP-Congress to Keep BJP out of Jammu and Kashmir

NC and PDP – National Conference and People’s Democratic Party have agreed to form an alliance with Congress to form a new government in Jammu and Kashmir (J&K), and most importantly, to keep the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) out.

Will PM Modi Trifurcate (Divide) Jammu & Kashmir into 3 Parts Before 2019 Elections?

They are most likely to field Altaf Bukhari as chief minister if the NC-PDP-Congress coalition comes to power. Bukhari is a senior PDP leader and former finance minister. In the BJP-PDP coalition government, he was the state’s education minister and was later given the portfolios of finance, labour and employment, following the drop of the then finance minister Hasseb Drabu from the council of ministers.

Bukhari told the media that the alliance is being formed to address the Kashmir issue, the situation in Kashmir and to protect the special identity of the state that we have in the Constitution of India. “As elected representatives, we have to respond to the aspirations of the people and the emerging situation. Article 370 and Article 35-A are under attack. This alliance is not being formed for being in power.”

PDP has 28-seats in the state assembly, NC has 15 and Congress 12. Together, the three parties have 55 seats. The required number to form the government is 44 in the 87-member house.
