Governor Satya Pal Malik asserted that Hurriyat Conference members “don’t even go to the toilet without asking Pakistan.”. “I did not talk to any stakeholders. I met representatives from various political parties. As far as the Hurriyat Conference is concerned, they don’t even go to the toilet without asking Pakistan. Till the time they don’t de-link themselves with Pakistan, we will not hold any talks with them ” Malik told reporters.
The kingpin of Hurriyat Conference is 89-year-old Syed Ali Shah Geelani who has had deep, clandestine links with Pakistan. Geelani advocates that Kashmir must have the right of self-determination, but specifically supports the merger with Pakistan.
The adamant Hurriyat Conference leader only support a dialogue process aimed at resolving Kashmir dispute involving Pakistan. He said, “Kashmir is not any border dispute between India and Pakistan which they can solve by bilateral understandings. It is the issue concerning the future of 15 million people.
The Hurriyat is not in principle against a dialogue process but without the involvement of Kashmiri people, such a process has proved meaningless in the past. Geelani has been repeatedly criticised by Indian authorities for inciting violence in the region and working as an offshoot of Pakistan.
Geelani says openly that he is not Indian. “Travelling on the Indian passport is a compulsion of every Kashmiri as Kashmir is an Internationally accepted Disputed region between India and Pakistan” are his words when applying for Indian Passport. We are Pakistani; Pakistan is ours, he can be heard sloganeering in various rallies.
Governor Malik has re-emphasised the unless and until Hurriyat Conference led by Syed Ali Shah Geelani does not disconnect with Pakistan, there is no point inviting a Pakistani Pawn to the negotiating table.
