Imran Invites Rajapaksa To Visit Pakistan; But India On Top Priority



Pakistan PM Imran Khan has congratulated his newly appointed Sri Lankan counterpart – Mahinda Rajapaksa for becoming the Prime Minister of Sri Lanka and invited to visit the country.

In a telephone call today, Imran Khan expressed the desire to work closely with the Sri Lankan Prime Minister to further strengthen Pakistan-Sri Lanka bilateral relations in all dimensions.

The Sri Lankan Prime Minister thanked Prime Minister Imran Khan and said that he looks forward to working together to further strengthen Sri Lanka-Pakistan relations.

Meanwhile, Sri Lanka’s newly elected President Gotabaya Rajapaksa will visit New Delhi on November 29. Gotabaya’s visit to New Delhi, his likely first trip abroad as President, comes months after Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited Colombo in a goodwill gesture following the deadly Easter Sunday attacks.

Indian PM Narendra Modi was among the first international leaders to congratulate the junior Rajapaksa after his decisive victory in the November 16 election.

Pakistan’s Prime Minister Imran Khan, Nepali Prime Minister K.P. Sharma Oli and Maldivian President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih were among the regional leaders who wished the new President. GotabayaRajapaksa is well-known in New Delhi from his earlier stint as Defence Secretary under his brother and former President Mahinda Rajapaksa.
