Cricketer turned politician Imran Khan of the PTI was sworn in as the Prime Minister of Pakistan on Saturday. Imran Khan had fought the elections on large promises to end the nexus of corruption rooted in the politics of the nation and people believed in him as being the ‘face of change.’

A Simple And Subtle Oath Taking Ceremony
In the results of the general elections held in July, his party Pakistan-Tehreeke-Insaf (PTI) emerged as the most successful political faction garnering 116 seats. Khan was sworn in by Mamnoon Hussian, the President of Pakistan in a simple ceremony at the President House in Islamabad.
The oath-taking ceremony held at the President House began with the national anthem of Pakistan and then the holy verses of the Quran were recited. This glory has come to the illustrious cricketer after more than two decades of being a part of the national politics of Pakistan. He had to wait for long for his chance and now when he is at the helm the people of Pakistan are hoping for the construction of a ‘New Pakistan’ under him.
Imran Khan’s friend and former Indian cricketer Navjot Singh Sidhu were among the guests from India which were in Pakistan to attend the oath taking ceremony. Imran Khan led his team to win the 1992 World Cup and he had also invited his teammates to join him in this auspicious occasion. Ramiz Raza, Wasim Akram and the Army Chief of Pakistan, Qamar Javed Bajwa were among other prominent personalities present at the oath-taking ceremony.
Big Challenges Await Imran Khan
Pakistan’s reeling economy will pose the greatest challenge to the new government formed in Pakistan. Pakistan’s balance of payments crisis is known to the world and the fact that it finds itself on the grey list of FATF hurt Pakistan’s economy badly. Imran Khan will have the massive onus upon him to reshape the economic policies of Pakistan and bring an end to the financial woes of the nation.
