India Further Augments Aid To Bhutan; Makes No Entry For China

India-Bhutan Ties get a further boost as Indian PM Narendra Modi has planned to raise financial assistance to the kingdom nation, which already is the biggest recipient of the Indian aid. This decision is taken considering Thimpu’s five-year plan commencing 2019. This will be a huge assistance to the newly elected government under PM Loti Tshering.

India already contributes around 68% of the total external assistance received by Bhutan amounting to approximately Rs. 4,500 crore. Now, Delhi has committed further assistance of Rs. 500 crore under an economic incentive to Thimpu.

India is exploring new areas to assist Bhutan’s development projects. Newly formed Bhutan Government will keep the Health sector as a priority and would seek Indian expertise for developing Bhutan’s health sector.

Indian Prime Minister reached out to the newly elected Tshering and promised India’s full support to the ambitions of the new government. Tshering has clearly mentioned that he will be guided by the king in conducting foreign policy and that ties with India are non-negotiable.

The Druk Nyamrup Tshogpa (DNT’s) manifesto, famous for its slogan ‘Narrowing the Gap’ has promised social and economic development. This will transform Bhutan into a developed country by 2045. The party is having a serious outlook towards equitable health services including multi-speciality hospitals across Bhutan.

The country will also focus on improving digital connectivity, road building, civil aviation and power infrastructure among other developmental goals. India-Bhutan relations are expected to strengthen under DNT government.
