India Amplifies Defence Budget To Ensure High Security at India-Pakistan Border

This year’s Defence budget of India has crossed INR 3 Lakh Crores. The Finance Minister of India, Piyush Goyal announced that the defence budget will provide extra funds to secure India’s borders mainly against Pakistan and China.

The Finance Minister while presenting the Interim Budget for 2019-20, regarded soldiers as nation’s pride and honour and said that the government will provide extra funds to secure India’s borders and to ensure preparedness of highest degree.

Mr. Goyal criticised the previous governments’ assistance under the One Rank One Pension scheme which allotted a mere 500 crore rupees in the 2014-15 budget. In comparison, the current government has already provided 35,000 crore rupees to the soldiers under OROP scheme.

The One Rank One Pension is a longstanding demand by ex-servicemen for uniform pay for retired servicemen of the same rank and same service period, regardless of the year and date of their retirement.

The Finance Minister emphasised saying that the govt has announced a substantial hike in the Military Service Pay of all service personnel, and special allowances to Naval and Air Force personnel deployed in high-risk areas.
