Turkey has vowed not to compromise any data related to the Russian S-400 air defence system. Turkey will keep any sensitive information it has related to the S-400 air defence system safe, Defence Industries president* Ismail Demir has said.
“Russia has expressed concern about the [safety] of data about the S-400, and Turkey pledges to protect this information,” Demir said, speaking at a recent panel discussion.
The purchase of S-400s by Turkey in 2017 was not well received by Washington and since then it has been desperately trying to get sensitive information about the Russian air defence system, according to experts talking to the EurAsian Times.

First, Washington tried the hardliner approach by threatening sanctions against Ankara. When Turkey did not budge, Washington kicked Ankara out of the F-35 fighter jet program. However, Turkey still did not change its mind and then the US decided to offer a way out.
Last month, Republican Senator John Thune proposed buying out Turkey’s S-400s to enable President Erdogan to get “out of the jam he put himself in” by buying the systems in the first place. This sent alarm bells ringing in Moscow and Beijing, all users of the S-400s who expressed serious concern over the offer.

The U.S. routinely buys foreign technology and could both exploit the S-400′s technology and test U.S. tactics, said Jim Townsend, a former Pentagon official for European and NATO policy. If Turkey doesn’t go for the idea, he said, the two countries are still stuck.
“I think the US buying the S-400s from Turkey is a clever way of getting Erdogan out of the jam he put himself in,” Townsend said. “We just want to get the system out of Turkey … and if it enables the Turks to take part in the F-35 then all the better.”
Omer Celik, press secretary of Turkey’s ruling Justice and Development Party has emphasised that Turkey would be the S-400s’ “final user,” and that Ankara had no legal grounds to resell the systems to any third country.

The S-400 air defence system has become a mainstream Russian military export apart from MiG and Sukhoi fighter jets. Currently, India is waiting to receive its delivery of the S-400 missiles it agreed to buy from Moscow in October 2018.
As reported by Eurasian Times earlier, the Russian S-400 is one of the most advanced air defence systems in the world. It was first introduced into service with the Russian military in the mid-2000s and is capable to shoot down everything from aircraft and drones to ballistic and cruise missiles within a range of whopping 400 km.
