India-Morocco Join Hands to Combat Global Terror Together

Published

on

India has signed a pact with the Kingdom of Morocco, Africa’s second-biggest economy, an Agreement on Mutual Legal Assistance in Criminal Matters. The Agreement will strengthen bilateral cooperation with Morocco and enhance effectiveness. It will provide a broad legal framework for the prevention, investigation and prosecution of crimes; as well as in tracing, restraint and confiscation of funds meant to finance terrorist acts.

The Moroccan Justice Minister Mohamed Auajjar told ET that Morocco has a globally recognized school of counter-terrorism. “We have counter-terror cooperation including bilateral legal arrangements with major countries to fight terror. Given the expansion in ties with India and mutual interest, we decided to sign these treaties with Delhi, taking our counter-terror partnership to the next level.” He said that it will enable the two countries to share the best practices in combating global terrorism.

The Indian government in a statement said that India believes in the necessity of enhancing the domain of mutual cooperation with Morocco and realizing the importance of broadening the aspects of cooperation between both the countries in civil and commercial matters.

Over the years, Morocco has emerged as a fighter against global terrorism. Moreover, Morocco is a founding member of the Global Counter-Terrorism Forum (GCTF) and is part of the Global Initiative to Counter Nuclear Terrorism. The kingdom is also a member of the US-led Global Coalition to Counter ISIS. It carries out airstrikes against terror groups in Syria and Iraq.
