Intensified Cross-Border Shelling By Indian Army Linked To Anger Over Gulf Criticism: Pakistan

While the world is busy battling Covid-19 pandemic, India and Pakistan are busy in cross border shelling across the volatile Line-of-control and justifying its need.

Speaking at a press conference, Pakistan’s Director General Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) Major General Babar Iftikhar said, “The military leadership has taken strong exception to the increasing ceasefire violations by India along the LoC as well as reckless statements by their government.”

The DG-ISPR said there had been a tremendous surge in ceasefire violations. “In 2020, Indian forces committed 848 ceasefire violations and targeted innocent civilians in Azad Jammu and Kashmir (Pak-administered-Kashmir),” Iftikhar said, adding that 456 such violations were discovered since the first case of COVID-19 was reported in Pakistan on February 26.

The DG-ISPR blamed the India Army for using heavy artillery while targeting innocent civilians along the Line-of-Control. The Indian army have been using civilians as a human shield to evade Pakistan’s retaliation, Iftikhar claimed.

As per reports in Express Tribune, the heightened resentment along the LoC is believed to be associated with the Modi government’s domestic predicaments as well as an ongoing annoyance in the Middle-East nations over New Delhi’s anti-Muslim policies.

Officials said that the recent visit by PM Imran Khan along with COAS – General Qamar Bajwa to the Inter-Services Intelligence headquarters was connected to escalated tensions along the LoC with India.

The DG ISPR also rejected Indian assertions that Pakistan was sending coronavirus infected militants into Jammu and Kashmir, saying this only indicated its frustration and trepidation on the Indian part.

“At a time when the entire world is getting united against the COVID-19 pandemic, regrettably, the RSS-inspired radicals are occupied in promoting Hindutva and Saffron terrorism while mocking all international laws and norms,” Iftikhar said.
