Indian and Russian Army Chief’s have reportedly confirmed to participate in the upcoming Victory Day Celebrations programme on December 16 according to the liberation war affairs minister AKM Mozammel Huq. Forces from the Indian Army supported by Bangla rebels and encouraged by then USSR (now Russia) managed to liberate Bangladesh (then East Pakistan) from the clutches of Pakistan in 1971.Â

The Indian armed forces members who took part in the war with the freedom fighters in the liberation war against Pakistani occupational forces and the Russian navy members who removed mines from the Bay of Bengal after December 16 would also be invited, Mozammel Huq stated.
‘This year’s Victory Day will be celebrated colourfully with great enthusiasm ahead of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman’s birth centenary celebrations,’ said Mozammel at the inter-ministerial preparation meeting for the Victory Day at his office.
The minister said that colourful march past would be presented by armed forces at the national parade ground on the morning of December 16. The president Abdul Hamid, prime minister Sheikh Hasina, cabinet members, political parties and people from all walks of life would place wreaths at the National Martyrs
