A Day after the Iranian Health Minister claimed that the situation is under control, he was tested positive for Coronavirus. So far, 26 people have been confirmed to have succumbed to the deadly coronavirus.

Pakistan Closes Border With Iran Fearing The Outbreak Of Deadly Coronavirus

According to IRNA, the virus, also known as COVID-19, has so far spread across 20 Iranian provinces, while 11 are currently free of infection. Iran is one of over 35 countries, including the U.S., the U.K., Singapore, France, Russia, Spain, Pakistan, and India, which account for the nearly 80,000 COVID-19 cases confirmed around the world.

Iraj Hiarichi, the Iranian Deputy Health Minister, on Monday claimed that the Nation’s coronavirus outbreak has been completely under control. The day after, irony had the last laugh as Hairichi was tested positive for coronavirus. This small incident exposes the Iranian government’s mismanagement of the outbreak.

Fresh reports indicate that new cases in Iraq and Afghanistan, the countries that host the troops of the United States, can be traced back to Iran. In a rather shameful act, it appears that the government’s lack of awareness of the severity of the virus outbreak or even at times quashing any evidence of it, Tehran has let millions of workers and others to travel in and out form the country on a day to day basis despite the outbreak. As a result, Iran has now reported the second most deaths after China due to coronavirus.

Although certain measures of closing down public places have been taken, the Iranian President Hassan Rouhani seems to be engaged in a blame game for the fault of his own government. He has accused it to be a plot of an “enemy” to spread fear in the nation.

The constant wars in Yemen, Syria, and Afghanistan has led to millions of refugees fleeing their homes and crisscrossing the region every day. Along with it, the religious pilgrims and migrant workers also pay a visit to the region every day. This, as pointed out by Peter Piot, the director of the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, is the recipe for a disaster.

Take for example the city of Qom, Iran’s religious capital. With a population of 1 million and 20 million visitors every year, despite 50 people getting affected it still remains open for travelers, especially for the Muslim pilgrims visiting the holy site.

From the new reports from Qom, it is said that the prominent members of the city are also affected and are kept in quarantine.  The outbreak in the Middle East – specifically Iran – means that the outbreak is likely to get worse. A professor at the University of Toronto who specializes in infectious diseases estimates that there may be over 18,000 undetected coronavirus cases in Iran.
