Iran Warns Strikes on US Bases in Qatar, UAE, Afghanistan, If Washington Ignites War

Iran has warned that it could strike US bases in Qatar, UAE, Afghanistan and strikeĀ other defence installation as tensions between the US and Iran escalate. Amirali Hajizadeh, head of Iran’s Revolutionary Guards’ airspace division, said that US bases in the Gulf and Afghanistan were within range of Iranian missiles if the US uses military force against Tehran.

In particular, he emphasized that the US bases and aircraft carriers in the UAE, Qatar and Afghanistan as possible targets.Ā “They are within our reach and we can hit them if they (Americans) make a move,” he said, according toĀ Reuters.

The general said that newly-improved, precision-guided missiles would mean Iran could hitĀ al-Udaid air base in Qatar, al-Dhafra base in the UAE and Kandahar base in Afghanistan.Ā The US also has other bases in the region, as well as its Fifth Fleet based in neighbouring Bahrain.

Tensions swelled between the US and Iran following the introduction of new sanctions by Washington aimed at economically crippling Tehran.Ā The sanctions target Iranian oil exports and its banking centre –Ā economic lifelinesĀ for the country.

Iran has earlier threatened to target shipping in the vital Straits of Hormuz region, as well as US and allied military in the region.Ā In a show of strength last month, Iran firedĀ precision-guided missilesĀ at Islamic State group targets in Syria.

Iran is also involved in the Syria war and Iraq’s fight-back against IS, while it has continued to expand its missile programme.Ā Iran’s President Hassan RouhaniĀ has warnedĀ the US of a “war situation” as sanctions resume.
