Citing Iran’s missile strikes on US airbase – Ain al-Asad in Iraq, the Commander of IRGC Aerospace Force Brigadier General Amir Ali Hajizadeh said, “had the US responded to our attacks, we were ready to hit at least 400 US targets in the region,” reports the Mehr News Agency.

As EurAsian Times had reported earlier, Tehran had launched a barrage of missiles at the US base in Iraq announcing the missile strikes to be retaliation for the assassination of top Iranian General — Qassem Suleimani.

Al-Asad airbase in Iraq was hit at least 17 times, including by two ballistic missiles that reportedly failed to detonate. An additional five missiles were also launched towards the US base in the northern city of Erbil in the retaliatory attacks.

None of the troops from Iraq, UK, Australia, Canada or the US were killed or injured in the missile strikes.  Iran’s supreme leader, Ali Khamenei, called the missile attack as “a slap in the face” for the US but cautioned that Iran still had a broader purpose of ousting its enemy from the region.

Referring to the reactions of US officials on the launch of Iran’s first military satellite, Hajizadeh said, “By assassinating Gen. Soleimani, the US wanted to show that they killed a symbol of Resistance, and they were sure that Tehran would not answer to their attack.”
