Justice for Kashmir – But Which Kashmir – Indian, Pakistani or Chinese?

Justice for Kashmir – But Which One – Indian, Pakistani or Chinese held Kashmir? A plane carrying the slogan ‘Justice for Kashmir’ was seen flying over the Headingley Cricket Ground as India took on Sri Lanka in their final league game in the World Cup.

On June 29 during the match between Pakistan and Afghanistan, a plane with a banner reading ‘Justice for Balochistan’ flew over the same stadium. Pakistan foreign office has strongly condemned the Justice For Balochistan banners and reckless behaviour of a certain group of fans during the Pakistan-Afghanistan World Cup cricket match. The flying of Justice for Balochistan banner has added fuel to fire and deeply embarrassed Islamabad who have been accused by Baloch groups of committing atrocities in the region.

Many critics have asked which Kashmir did the banner refer to? Kashmir is primarily divided into two parts, Indian Kashmir and Pakistani Kashmir and both nations accuse each other of human rights violations in the region. There is also another part which Pakistan ceded to China and a fourth part which China controls. Now which Kashmir did the banner precisely refer to is not clear.

The International Cricket Council (ICC) had said: “We do not condone any sort of political messages at the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup and will work with West Yorkshire police to deal with and understand why this has happened and to ensure it does not happen again.”
