Kim Jong-Un Says ‘Will Never Give Up Nukes As North Korea Declares Itself A Nuclear Power At Legislative Level

Pyongyang has declared by law that North Korea is a nuclear-weapon state and its leader Kim Jong-un has the sole right to make any decision concerning nuclear weapons, South Korean news agency Yonhap reported on Friday, citing North Korea’s state media.

The media cited the Korean Central News Agency as saying that the 7th Session of the 14th Supreme People’s Assembly on North Korea adopted a decree entitled Nuclear Weapons Policy on Wednesday.

The document contains 11 paragraphs that include provisions on the purpose of forces of nuclear weapons, the composition of nuclear, command and control over them, enforcement of decisions on the use of nuclear weapons, principles and conditions of their use, mobilization, safe maintenance and protection, mass strengthening and modernization, and others.

The third paragraph, entitled “command and control of nuclear weapons,” stipulates that Kim Jong-un has the sole right to dispose of nuclear arsenals and “makes all decisions concerning nuclear weapons.”

Meanwhile, according to Yonhap news agency, citing North Korea’s state media, North Korea will retaliate with a nuclear strike if attacked with nuclear weapons or other weapons of mass destruction or if there is an imminent threat of such attacks,

According to the report, conditions for the use of nuclear weapons include an attack or imminent threat of an attack by an enemy country using nuclear weapons or other weapons of mass destruction on North Korea, an attack by hostile nuclear or non-nuclear nations on the leadership and command of the nuclear forces of North Korea, and the destructive attack on the country’s strategically important facilities.

The KCNA said that a nuclear strike would be launched immediately to destroy the hostile forces, the source of the provocation, and its command in the event of North Korea’s command and control system of the nuclear forces being threatened by a hostile attack.

Additionally, North Korean leader Kim Jong-un said on Friday that Pyongyang would never give up its nuclear arsenals as the United States is aimed at the fall of the North Korean regime.

“The aim of the US is not only to eliminate our nuclear weapons but to completely destroy our nuclear power to force us to give up the right of self-defense, to weaken us to overthrow our regime at any time,” Kim Jong-un told the 7th Session of the 14th Supreme People’s Assembly, as quoted by the Yonhap news agency.

The leader added that no sanctions would make Pyongyang give up its nuclear weapons.

“This is the [US] misjudgment and miscalculation… You can impose sanctions for a hundred days, a thousand days, ten years, a hundred years. We are not going to give up the right to survival and the right to self-defense, on which the country’s security and its people depend. Peninsula can never give up nuclear weapons,” the North Korean leader said.
