HAL Tejas – Who Bagged 100 Cr Contract For India’s 1st Indigenous Aircraft

HAL Tejas, the Light Combat Aircraft is in the news again. The National Aerospace Laboratory (NAL) has bagged the contract from HAL to supply equipment for LCA Tejas Fighter Jet. Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL), the manufacturer of India’s first indigenous combat aircraft LCA Tejas has granted a contract worth 100 crores to NAL as confirmed by its Director Jitendra Jadhav.

National Aerospace Laboratory is a laboratory set up under the Council for Scientific and Industrial Research. The NAL was used to release the primary airframe components of LCA Tejas. As per EurAsian Times secondary research, these components include fin, rudder, wing spars and fairings in addition to main landing gear components. LCA Tejas will give India a great military advantage over its enemies.

LCA Tejas is a fourth generation fighter aircraft which has a composite technology. LCA Tejas is a supersonic, single seat, single engine light fighter aircraft capable of undertaking multiple roles. LCA Tejas has been manufactured by Hindustan Aeronautics Limited and was inducted into the Indian Air Force in July 2016. It is India’s first indigenous fighter aircraft built at a moderate cost for the Indian Air Force and the Indian Navy. The NAL is also developing the components of Saras which is indigenously manufactured aircraft for civil and military use.

The Defence Research and Development Organisation of India is developing a fifth-generation fighter jet for the Indian Air Force. This fighter jet is expected to make its first flight by 2032 to add to India’s military strength amid going dynamics of the ongoing Cold War.

The global superpowers have significantly shifted their focus to procuring or developing ultra-modern fighter aircrafts and India needs to catch on. India’s joint project with Russia for the development of fifth-generation fighter jets has been stalled and hence India is keen to indigenously manufacture its fifth generation fighter jets with stealth capabilities.
