What Links the Kashmiri Militants with the US Special Forces in Afghanistan?

The militant groups in Kashmir own sophisticated US-made sniper guns which may be used to attack Indian forces in Kashmir. The officials stated that these guns were used by the NATO forces against the Taliban in Afghanistan. Experts believe that if such weapons exist with Kashmiri Militants, then the only source could be Pakistan.

A top security specialist from J&K’s security network told that the troops were forced to go in a huddle to determine that which weapon was being used by militants.

According to the security specialist, at least three to four sniper rifles are with militants. “For the first time, such gun was seen in the hands of slain Hizbul Mujahideen commander Sameer Tiger in a photograph uploaded on social networking sites.”

The security agencies along with the police, army and CRPF have managed to carry out a plan to classify these weapons used by militants. Rajendra Prasad, an assistant sub-inspector of Central Industrial Security Force who was guarding a power grid station was killed in a “stand-off” attack at Wagoora area near Nowgam, Srinagar. According to police sources, it was third such casualty in a “stand-off” attack by militants.

Attacks following the similar pattern took place on October 21 and October 25, where militants in Tral, Pulwama killed a Sahastra Seema Bal man in a “sniper attack” and an army soldier at Lurgam, Tral.

According to the top security official, it was found out in the “preliminary investigations” that the sniper guns currently, used by militants are loaded with night-vision devices which help in carrying out attacks in darkness.

Munir Khan, additional director general of police (law and order/security) declared that “We are investigating the recent killings. We didn’t find any empty cartridge around Nowgam area as that could have helped in recognising the nature of gun being used by the militants.”

Ravideep Singh Sahi,  Inspector general of Central Reserve Police Force told that the state is “not that alarming but our men have been asked to maintain extra vigil.”
