Parvez Musharaf Was Behind the Assassination of Benazir Bhutto: Pakistan Taliban

A Pakistan Taliban Militant has blamed Parvez Musharaf for the assassination of Benazir Bhutto. In a video released by the Pakitan Taliban (TTP), former President of Pakistan, General Parvez Musharraf was blamed for the assassination of Benazir Bhutto. Ikramullah, the accused militant along with the commander of Taliban splinter group stated in the video that Pakistan Taliban had no role in the in the assassination of Benazir Bhutto.

Benazir Bhutto was brutally assassinated in Rawalpindi on August 27, 2007. She was shot dead while addressing a public rally. The release of the video blaming Parvez Musharraf for her assassination was reported by the BBC.

Ikramullah is accused of being the backup suicide bomber in the Benazir Bhutto assassination plot. Parvez Musharraf has already been charged with ‘abetment and conspiracy to murder’ in context of the assassination of Benazir Bhutto. However, he never appeared in court.

Musharraf is currently in Dubai serving a self-imposed exile. He has repeatedly denied any involvement in Benazir Bhutto’s murder plot or having not provided her sufficient security on purpose.

Rehman Malik, the former interior minister of Pakistan argued that Ikramullah is lying. He said that other suspects in the case have already named him in the court. He said that the claim made by Ikramullah is out of fear of being detained in Afghanistan.

In the video shot in Afghanistan, Ikramullah makes frequent claims that he has nothing to do with the murder plot. He even said in the video that he was totally unaware of any such plans being made. His name features on the list of the most wanted terrorists in Pakistan. In total, five militants were charged with murder in the case pertaining to the assassination of Benazir Bhutto, the former PM of Pakistan.
