Neighbours Pakistan, Afghanistan Will Not Permit Anyone To Use Its Soil Against Iran

Pakistan Army spokesman Maj Gen Asif Ghafoor on Sunday said that Islamabad will not allow its soil to be used against anyone. Quoting PM Imran Khan and General Bajwa, Ghafoor said: “We will not allow our soil to be used against anyone” (hinting at the United States).

After Eliminating Top Iranian General, US Calls-Up Pakistani COAS – General Bajwa

“Pakistan will not be a party to anyone or anything but will be a partner of peace and peace alone,” he said, quoting PM Imran Khan.

His remarks came two days after Afghan President Ashraf Ghani said that Afghanistan’s soil will not be used against any nations as per a Bilateral Security Agreement signed between Washington and Kabul in 2014. Both Pakistan and Afghanistan share border with Iran, which has vowed to avenge the killing of its top general.

The United States earlier eliminated Major General Qassem Soleimani, the head of the elite Quds force who spearheaded Iran’s military influence in the Middle East. The US labeled Soleimani as terrorists who also authorized the siege of the US embassy in Baghdad.

US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo later called Pakistan Army General Qamar Javed Bajwa instead of PM Khan and discussed escalating tensions with Iran. “Pakistan’s Chief of Staff General Bajwa and I spoke today about US defensive action to kill Qassem Soleimani,” Pompeo wrote on Twitter. “The Iran regime’s actions in the region are destabilizing and our resolve in protecting American interests, personnel, facilities, and partners will not waver,” he added.
