Netizens Troll Pakistan PM Imran Khan For Getting ‘Red Door-Mat’ Welcome

Netizens were at their furious best when they trolled Pakistan PM Imran Khan on the glaring difference in the reception granted to Indian PM Narendra Modi and him upon their respective arrivals in the US ahead of the UNGA session.

Indian PM Narendra Modi was received by the Director of Trade and International Affairs, Christopher Olson, US Ambassador to India Kenneth Juster, and other officials at the airport.

Pakistan PM Imran Khan, who arrived in the US via Saudi Crown Prince Muhammad Bin Salman’s jet, was received by Pakistan’s UN Ambassador Maleeha Lodhi.

“SELECTED versus ELECTED,” said another user in response. Earlier in the day, Modi left netizens impressed with his gesture when he promptly picked up flowers from the ground which fell from the bouquet given to him during the welcome ceremony at the airport.

Modi and Khan will address the UN General Assembly on Friday. While Khan’s address is expected to center around India’s move on Kashmir, New Delhi has cleared that Prime Minister Modi will focus on his country’s contribution on development, peace, and security fronts as a responsible member of the global body.

The most notable image which was being widely circulated on Twitter was that of Imran Khan getting a red-doormat welcome while PM Modi had a red carpet welcome.

PM Khan’s visit marked by protests

Imran Khan’s visit to the US is also marked by protests by several ethnic and religious minorities of Pakistan, including Baloch, Sindhis and Mohajirs.

The Baloch groups  Saturday started a mobile billboard campaign in America’s national capital urging President Donald Trump to help end “enforced disappearances in Pakistan.

A bipartisan group of 10 influential American lawmakers Saturday asked US President Donald Trump to raise the issue of human rights abuses in the Sindh province in his meeting with the visiting Pakistan Prime Minister.

Protests have been planned in front of the White House and Capitol Hill Arena by these groups over the next few days
