Why Nord Stream-2 Gas Pipeline will be Terrible for Germany?

The construction of the Nord Stream-2 Gas Pipeline is a bad development for Germany and NATO. This statement criticising the Nord Stream-2 Gas Pipeline was made by US President Donald Trump at a joint press conference with British Prime Minister Theresa May in London.

Nord Stream-2 is a project to expand the existing Nord Stream main gas pipeline linking Russia and Germany along the bottom of the Baltic Sea, bypassing the transit states: of Ukraine, Belarus, Poland and other Eastern European and Baltic nations.

President Trump stated that Russia completely controls the FRG through the expansion of energy supplies through the Nord Stream-2 gas pipeline. According to Trump, after the installation of this gas pipeline, Germany will get about 70% of its energy resources from Russia.

Why did Donald Trump Slam Germany at The NATO Summit?

“How can you not get influenced by another country if someone has so much power over your, Trump questioned. “I do not think it’s good, you do not work from a position of strength, you gave up all your power,” Trump warned.

The United States, for a number of geopolitical reasons, is vehemently objecting to the construction of the Nord Stream-2 gas pipeline. Many critics also point out that Washington is trying to “squeeze” the supply of its LNG to the Europe, which is more high-priced than the Russian one and goes through the pipeline.

Construction of the “Nord Stream – 2” is scheduled for the end of 2019. The production of each of the two strings is 27.5 billion cubic meters per year. The new gas pipeline will double the capacity of the first “Nord Stream”. The cost of construction of the Nord Stream-2 is estimated at € 9.5 billion. The operator of the gas pipeline construction project is Nord Stream 2 AG, whose sole shareholder is the Russian Gazprom.
