The leaders of Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) rejected US President Donald Trump’s decision to recognize Jerusalem as the capital of Israel, calling it “irresponsible” and “null and void”, and in-turn declared East Jerusalem as the occupied capital of the State of Palestine.

At the final statement at the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation, which was held on Wednesday in the city of Istanbul, all members of OIC overwhelmingly rejected and condemned the US’s unilateral decision and termed it as illegal and irresponsible.

Condemnation from Organisation of Islamic Cooperation

In the strongest possible terms, the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) called  the decision of the president of the United States to recognize Jerusalem as the capital of Israel, the occupying power, as a terrible mistake which they considered null and void.”

Leaders of OIC called on the world to recognize East Jerusalem as the capital of Palestine, in response to the US decision to recognize Jerusalem as the capital of Israel. “We declare East Jerusalem the Capital of the State of Palestine, and we call on other nations to recognize the state of Palestine and occupied East Jerusalem as its capital,” the leaders said in the statement.

Arab League Urges the US to Reverse Decision on Jerusalem

The Organisation of Islamic Cooperation summit condemned the unilateral and irresponsible decision of President Trump that it “serves the interests of extremism and terrorism and threatens international peace and security,”. They further stated that the resolution “is tantamount to declaring the US administration’s withdrawal from its role as an intermediary in the on-going Middle-East conflict.

The leaders at OIC added that they considered the US resolution as an “Encouragement to Israel- the occupying power, to continue their policy of colonization, settlement, apartheid and ethnic cleansing of people of Palestine.

The statement said that if the Security Council did not act on Jerusalem decision, “we are ready to bring the issue to the General Assembly of the United Nations .” “We are determined to confront any steps that might prejudice the historical, legal, religious or political status of the city of Jerusalem,” the statement said. The leaders at OIC welcomed the international consensus rejecting the US administration’s decision on Jerusalem as a message of strong support for the rights of the Palestinian people.

Benjamin Netanyahu Not Impressed with Statement of Organization of Islamic Cooperation

The statements made during the emergency summit of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) in Istanbul is not impressive, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said. “All these statements do not impress us,” said the politician, noting that in the end, “many countries will recognize Jerusalem as the capital of Israel and transfer their embassies there.”

Meanwhile, OIC urged Washington to reverse the decision to recognize Jerusalem as the capital of Israel, warning that the responsibility for all the consequences will lie on Washington.
