The Pakistan Army blocked the distribution of Pakistan’s leading English language newspaper, after Nawaz Sharif in an interview to Dawn, criticised the country’s unwillingness to probe the 2008 Mumbai attacks, for which Pakistan backed terrorists were accused.

Reporters Without Borders (RSF) stated the block on Pakistan’s oldest newspaper was the latest example of Pakistan Army and the ISI trying to tame the media ahead of the elections.

The Pakistan-sponsored terrorist organisation, Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) has been accused by India of executing the Mumbai attacks with complete backing and support from Pakistan Army, a claim Islamabad denies.

The brunt of the statement by Nawaz Sharif had to be borne by Dawn newspaper. The unjustifiable blocking of the distribution of one of the leading and unbiased newspaper of Pakistan has yet again shown that Pakistan Army resolute to control all media networks in the country.
