Kulbhushan Jadhav and India-Pakistan bickering is back in the limelight. The Pakistan Foreign Office has outrightly rejected accusations by India’s legal counsel in the Kulbhushan Jadhav case that Islamabad had not adhered with the verdict of the International Court of Justice (ICJ).
“We have noted the statements made in an online lecture on May 3, 2020, by Mr Harish Salve, India’s legal counsel in the Kulbhushan Jadhav case,” Pakistan Foreign Office said in a statement. “While hinting that New Delhi may have to go back to the ICJ, Salve has made certain comments which are contradictory to the facts of the case,” the FO added.
“We firmly reject the Indian counsel’s baseless and inaccurate assertion that Pakistan has not complied with the ICJ’s judgment in the case.” Pakistan FO affirmed that Islamabad had fully complied with the decision and was bound to continuing doing so as the case proceeded further.
Being a responsible country, Pakistan stringently follows by all its international commitments. It is unfortunate that Mr Salve has chosen to make statements which are fallacious and distort facts, the FO said.
Earlier, as EurAsian Times reported, Harish Salve, while giving an online lecture on May 3, claimed that Pakistan had rejected to answer Indian questions about carrying out the ICJ verdict and evaluating the case.
Salve was quoted saying – India was hoping it might be able to convince Pakistan through “back channel” diplomacy to free Kulbhushan Jadhav, who was sentenced to death by a Pakistan military court on charges of “espionage and terrorism” in 2017.
During an online lecture series organised by the Akhil Bharatiya Adhivakta Parishad, Salve said the Indian side has kept on questioning how does Pakistan intend to carry out the ICJ decision and give reevaluate the case, but no answer came from Islamabad.
