US diplomats believe Pakistan has an important role to play in the Afghan peace talks. The US has developed a “much better” relationship recently with Pakistan, said US President Donald Trump. Afghan Peace Talks were facilitated by Islamabad by after pressurizing the Taliban to come to the negotiating table with the US Government.

While speaking at the White House event on trade negotiations with China, Trump said: “relations had improved over the last short period of time and added that the United States may set up some meetings with Pakistan.”
US diplomats said: “Pakistan has an important role to play in the Afghan peace talks”. On February 25, Taliban representatives are supposed to meet US special peace envoy Zalmay Khalilzad in Qatar for the next round of talks.
Afghanistan’s Foreign Ministry summoned the Pakistani ambassador over remarks stating that Afghan peace talks could be affected if India resorted to violence in the wake of Pulwama attacks for which banned militant outfit Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM) reportedly claimed responsibility. Meanwhile, the meeting between the Taliban and US negotiators was postponed.
Trump also talked about the existing conflict between India and Pakistan following the deadly attack against Indian forces in Pulwama. “It’s very dangerous situation between the two countries. Right now there are a lot of problems between India and Pakistan because of what happened,” Trump informed media.
Trump responded to a question regarding Indo-Pak tensions saying, “I have seen it, I have watched it. I have gotten a lot of report on it. We will have a comment at the appropriate time.”
“It would be wonderful if they got along. It seems like that was a horrible situation but we are getting reports. And we will have a statement to put out,” Trump informed reporters during the press conference.
