Pakistan has vehemently renounced the reference to Pakistan in the Japan-India Joint Statement issued in New Delhi on 30th November this year. In a statement issued on Monday, the Pakistan Foreign Office Spokesperson Mohammad Faisal said this reference is gratuitous and completely unwarranted.

He said India’s animus towards Pakistan and its smear campaign in the context of alleged “cross-border terrorism” are well-known to the world.
Faisal said among other things, these are New Delhi’s strategy to divert the world’s attention from India’s illegal actions and gross and systematic violations of human rights in Jammu and Kashmir.
He said India’s relentless attempts to politicize the FATF proceedings are also in the knowledge of the international community, including the broader FATF membership.
Earlier, India and Japan described terror networks based in Pakistan as a threat to regional security and called on the country to take “irreversible action” against such groups.

The two countries also called for a stronger global collaboration and enhanced intelligence-sharing to counter-terrorism after the first combined dialogue of their defence and foreign ministers in New Delhi. The dialogue came ahead of Prime Minister Shinzo Abe’s annual summit with Indian PM Narendra Modi in mid-December.
The joint statement issued after Saturday’s meeting denounced terrorism and labelled it as a major threat to the regional peace. “They noted in this context the threat posed to regional security by terrorist networks operating out of Pakistan and called upon it to take resolute and irreversible action against them and fully comply with international commitments including to FATF (Financial Action Task Force),” the statement said.
