Pakistan, India Can Handle Kashmir Issue On Their Own: Donald Trump

In a major diplomatic coup for New Delhi, US President Donald Trump said that Pakistan and India could handle their dispute over Jammu and  Kashmir on their own. Trump has earlier offered to mediate between Pakistan and India on the contested region but backtracked his stance on the sidelines of G-7 Summit.

Trump was discussing the issue on the sidelines of a G7 summit in France with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Trump clearly stated – “Pakistan and India can handle the issue [Kashmir dispute] on their own, but I am here.”

Trump said Modi told him that he had Kashmir under control. Modi, speaking alongside Trump, said the Kashmir issue was a bilateral one between Pakistan and India.

When asked if Modi would like Trump to negotiate over Kashmir, the Indian premier said, “Issues between Pakistan and India are bilateral.”
