Talking to Commander of the Qatar Emiri Guard, Maj-Gen Hazzaa Bin Khalil Bin Mansour Al-Shahwani, Alvi said a lot of scope existed between the two countries to include defence export and joint production ventures.

The president emphasised that having vast experience in the domain of security and the professionalism of its armed forces, “Pakistan can provide Qatar security for Football World Cup 2022″.

He highlighted on the need for improving the training collaboration and professional cooperation between defence forces of the two countries and appreciated the agreement for sale of eight Super Mushak aircraft to Qatar worth $57.74 million in 2016.

Three years until 2022 Qatar World Cup kicks off

Earlier,  Qatar Airways on Thursday tweeted an image marking “three years to the day until the start of the world’s biggest sporting event, the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022”. The tweet added, “We can’t wait! Who else is excited?” Qatar 2022 will be played from November 21 until December 18.

This will be the first World Cup ever to be held in the Arab world and the first in a Muslim-majority country. This will be the second World Cup held entirely in Asia after the 2002 tournament in South Korea and Japan. In addition, the tournament will be the last to involve 32 teams, with an increase to 48 teams scheduled for the 2026 tournament.

This will also mark the first World Cup not to be held in the summer months of May, June, or July; the tournament is instead scheduled for late November until mid-December. It is to be played in a reduced timeframe of around 28 days, with the final being held on 18 December 2022, which is also Qatar National Day.
