Pakistan Senate OK’s Resolution Condemning Killing of ‘Stone Pelters’ in Kashmir

Stone pelting in Kashmir leading to civilian deaths has been a “sad” norm in Jammu and Kashmir. Pakistan’s Senate has collectively passed a resolution denouncing the violence in Kashmir’s Pulwama district which resulted in the killing of seven innocent civilians.

OIC Strongly Condemns Indian Atrocities and Civilian Killings in Kashmir

The resolution moved by Pakistan People’s Party leader Sherry Rehman also reemphasised Pakistan’s commitment to continue its “moral and diplomatic support” to the Kashmiris.

The Pulwama encounter in Jammu and Kashmir left seven civilians dead after the Indian Army opened fire during violent clashes that broke out following an anti-terror operation. Three militants of Hizbul Mujahideen and an Indian Army soldier were killed in the operation also killed in the gunfight. One of the militants, Zahoor Ahmad Thokar, was a former Indian Army soldier who had joined Hizbul Mujahideen in June 2017.

It also asked the government to implement earlier resolutions passed by the Senate seeking the appointment of Special Envoys to raise the Kashmir issue at all international fora.

Separately, President Arif Alvi said on Tuesday that “Jammu & Kashmir is an unfinished agenda of partition and Pakistan will continue to extend moral, diplomatic and political support to the legitimate struggle” of the Kashmiris. The President said that peace in the region will remain elusive without resolution of the Kashmir issue.
