Pakistani Diplomat – Nayyar Iqbal Rana Shot Dead in Afghanistan

Nayyar Iqbal Rana, a Pakistani diplomatic was shot dead by a gunman on Monday evening near eastern Afghanistan where he was residing.

He was an employee at the Pakistan Consulate General in the Jalalabad city of Nangarhar province. According to the sources, Nayyar Rana Iqbal was shot dead by an unidentified gunmen around 6pm, as per the local news report.

The Pakistani Diplomat – Nayyar Rana Iqbal was without the Security Guard

Rana Iqbal belonged to the Sialkot district and was a father of five. He was out for shopping at a local market when he was targeted and subsequently shot down. Five gun shots were found on his chest and head.

He was an employee in the Pakistans consulate’s visa section and went shopping without a security guard. According to  Dr Mohammad Fasial, the Foreign Office spokesperson, this tragic incident of “gruesome murder” will be protested by the Pakistan charge d’affaires.

The Afghan Government is being questioned for providing security to the Pakistani Diplomats in Afghanistan. Khawaja Asif, the Foreign Minister of Pakistan has expressed deep sorrow over the “martyrdom” of Nayyar Iqbal Rana.

Prominent people from Afghanistan have condemned the “tragic shooting”. Hazrat Omar Zakhilwal, Afghan ambassador in Islamabad, expressed the sorrows on microblogging site Twitter.

Incidents of such nature have also happened earlier when two officials of the Pakistani consulate in Jalalabad went missing while returning to their home country by road. They got rescued later on. Lying 70 kilometres from the main border crossing with Pakistan, Jalalabad is the trading hub of Nangarhar from where landlocked Afghanistan imports much of its goods.

Last month, gunmen abducted Muhammad Nabi Ahmadi, the deputy governor of Afghanistan’s Kunar province, in the Dabgari area of Peshawar – a day after he arrived in
the city for an appointment with a doctor.
