International Consortium of Investigative Journalists (ICIJ) has released documents called ‘Paradise Papers’. It contains 1.34 crore documents. The disclosure depicts about the firms and fictitious companies that help the rich and powerful people send money abroad. Just like Panama leaks, Paradise papers also contain the popular names of many Indian politicians, actors, and businessmen that are involved in money laundering across the world for the rich and the powerful individuals.
According to Indian Institute of Media Research, Indian Express, ICIJ, this list includes the names of 714 Indians in total. In the world, there are 180 countries in this list. India is at number 19. The documents that have been scrutinized are mostly from Bermuda’s law firm Appleby. The 119-year-old company is a member of the network of lawyers, accountants, bankers, and others. This network also includes those who set up companies overseas for their clients and manage their bank accounts.
Amitabh Bachchan, Sanjay Dutt wife Manyatta Dutt, Jayant Sinha also in the list.
According to Paradise Papers, the name of Amitabh Bachchan, Jayant Sinha(Minister of State for Civil Aviation) and many prominent Bollywood superstars are present. There has also been disclosure of Amitabh Bachchan’s shares in a company located in Bermuda. Before Union Minister Jayant Sinha’s name came into politics, the Omidire Network has come out with a partnership. Apart from this, the names of BJP’s Rajya Sabha MP and businessman RK Sinha’s company SIS Securities have also emerged. In Paradise Papers Leak, there is also the mention of Sanjay Dutt’s wife by her old name.
The relationship between Wilber Ross (the billionaire and commerce secretary of Donald Trump) and Russia Paradise Papers, the secret funding of Canada’s Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, investment of Russian companies on Twitter and Facebook, the consumer loan and medical documents of Queen Elizabeth II of England have also emerged in the Paradise Papers.
