Philippine Could Become First Nation To Acquire BrahMos Cruise Missile From India

The Philippine Army is contemplating to acquire Brahmos supersonic missiles jointly developed by India and Russia. “Talks are now ongoing for Philippine Army’s Brahmos missile acquisition project with India,” a senior military official revealed, adding that Brahmos supersonic missiles are ideal for the Army’s land-based territorial defence operations.

Does BrahMos Missile Really Pose a Serious Threat to Chinese PLA?

The Brahmos was developed in 1998 in a joint venture between the Indian DRDO (Defense Research and Development Organization) and Federal State Unitary Enterprise NPO Mashinostroyenia of Russia in an inter-government agreement.

Brahmos can be launched from land-based mobile vertical launchers, while its variants can also be fired from warships, as well as fighter aircraft. It can attack and disable targets from as far as 290 kilometers when launched, by flying as low as five meters in altitude or at 1,400 altitudes as the maximum with a speed of Mach 2.8.

Thailand Shows Interest To Buy Supersonic BrahMos Missiles From India

“Once these Brahmos are finally procured and delivered, the Philipines Army will have the capability of defending the country from foreign aggressors and other territorial threats in the open seas,” a highly placed military source said.

On top of this, the Army has already created the 1st Brigade Combat Team to be its national quick reaction manoeuvre force against any land-based aggression of foreign forces anywhere in the country.

As EurAsian Times reported earlier, the BrahMos Aerospace Russian-Indian Joint Venture could sign contracts with other nations on the delivery of hypersonic missiles to friendly countries the end of 2019, Indian Co-Director Kumar Mishra told reporters at the MAKS-2019 airshow.

Indian Operated T-90 Tanks To Become Russian Army’s Main Battle Tank

The BrahMos Missile is a modification of the Soviet anti-ship missile Oniks. The missile’s name comes from the names of two rivers: the Brahmaputra of India and the Moskva of Russia. The missile’s test launch took place on June 12, 2001, from a coastal launcher. The missile’s production has been carried out jointly by Russia and India.

Earlier another south-east nation – Vietnam was exploring the possibility to procure the lethal supersonic missile from India. However, the Indian Government termed the media reports as “incorrect” despite that fact that defence partnership between two nations has been witnessing tremendous growth.
