Presidents of Russia and Turkey – Vladimir Putin and Recep Tayyip Erdogan – expressed serious concern over the US decision to recognize Jerusalem as the capital of Israel in a telephone conversation. This was reported by the press service of the Kremlin.
“On both sides, serious concern is expressed about the US decision to recognize Jerusalem as the capital of Israel and the announcement of plans to transfer the American embassy from Tel-Aviv” Such steps could hinder the Middle East peace process, “the report said.

In the course of the conversation, initiated by the Turkish side, Erdogan informed Putin about the convening of an emergency summit of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation on Istanbul devoted to the situation around Jerusalem.
The leaders of both the countries noted the inadmissibility of further escalation of tension in the region. In their view, the efforts of the international community should be aimed at facilitating the resumption of the Palestinian-Israeli negotiations in order to find a mutual agreement and solution to all the problems.
