The National Management Programme (NMP) at MDI-Gurgaon is a 15 Month, Post Graduate Programme which accepts applications from working executives, professionals, entrepreneurs within minimum five years of work experience. The NMP Program at MDI is recognized by AICTE as a Post Graduate Programme and has been accredited by the by AMBA, the Association of MBAs (UK).
Typically the National Management Program (NMP) gets completed after 12 months at the MDI campus, while students can join their new organisations and complete their thesis in the remaining 3 months.

NMP Program vs PGPM at MDI-Gurgaon
The flagship program at MDI Gurgaon is Post Graduate Program in Management (PGPM). The average cutoff for PGPM may go up to 98 in CAT and Average Package ranges from 15-17 Lacs / Year. The college management is very keen and focused on promoting its flagship program and nearly all resources are used to ensure the b-school stays at the top of the table.
On the contrary, The National Management Program (NMP) is not a flagship program and the MDI management seems uninterested and dispassionate about running the NMP Program with similar zeal and enthusiasm. Even though the faculty for both the programs are the same, students have consistently complained about 2 major issues:

1) Quality of Students
Unlike some of India’s leading Business Schools, MDI-Gurgaon has not been using GMAT or CAT for selection of candidates. Even though GMAT and CAT scores are accepted, but the majority of students are enrolled on the basis of a personal examination conducted by MDI for the NMP Program. This process has significantly reduced the quality of students enrolling at MDI for NMP Program, diminishing the experience of studying in a top-ranked business school.

2) Serious Issues in Placements
Students have frequently complained that the Placement Manager at MDI-Gurgaon is least interested in getting the NMP students placed, as his primary focus remains to place the PGPM students. Even though the Placement committee is formed, but all NMP students are expected to use their contacts in getting organisations for final placements. Vineet Kumar (name changed to conceal the identity) says if last year the Placement were Average, this year they have been just horrible.
Prof. Kanwal Kapil, Chairperson – Placements in a conversation with students says most of the organisations that come to MDI for placements are looking for fresh MBA’s for their organisations. We have students for NMP who even have 8-12 years of work experience and placing those students via the campus drive is extremely difficult. It’s all about demand and supply, and there is not much the college can do, explains Prof. Kapil.
