The Russian contingent comprised of 150 members with over 70 from the Special Forces. The nearly month-long preparation for the exercises include reconnaissance, search and ambush actions, camouflage and covert movement on terrain as well as the arrangement of long-term observation posts and survival in isolation from the main forces.

“Russian Federation Special Forces’ contingent arrived in Pakistan for 2 weeks long joint exercise DRUZHBA 5. The exercise is aimed at sharing both armies experiences in the counterterrorism domain. Sky diving & hostage rescue operations will be highlights of exercise,” said the statement on the DG-ISPR handle.

In September, the Pakistani Army also took part in the Russian Kavkaz-2020 military exercise, where the involved armies focused on combatting cruise missiles and unmanned aerial vehicles. It also featured 250 tanks, up to 450 mechanized infantry fighting vehicles, and around 200 artillery systems on the firing grounds.
