Russia’s United Aircraft Corporation under Rostec will present a fundamentally new military aircraft at MAKS-2021 International Aviation and Space Salon in Zhukovsky on July 20.

Rostec also opened the project’s website, where a countdown of the plane’s debut show on July 20 began overnight to Tuesday, according to a statement issued by Rostec.

UAC is best known for the Sukhoi multirole jet fighters and the Tupolev Tu-160 Blackjack strategic bomber.

“Russia is one of the few countries in the world with full-cycle capacities for producing advanced aircraft systems, as well as a recognized trendsetter in the creation of combat aircraft. The new product developed by UAC specialists should arouse genuine interest not only in our country but also in other regions of the world, including our competitors abroad,” the Rostec spokesman said.

Earlier there were reports that Russia had launched work on a new tactical aviation aircraft platform to develop a light fighter jet. In late 2019, the MiG Aircraft Corporation placed an order on the government’s procurement website for the “aerodynamic design of a light multirole frontline aircraft based on a two-engine scheme,” which is due to be developed in 2020-2025, Russian news agency TASS said.

The news agency reported earlier this year that the Sukhoi Aircraft Company (part of MiG) was developing Russia’s first single-engine, supersonic, light tactical fighter jet with low radar signature.

Individual elements of the new plane can already be seen in the video posted on the project page. The video also contains allusions to the key characteristics and unique properties of the project.

This year, the International Aviation and Space Salon MAKS-2021 will celebrate its fifteenth anniversary. The air show will be held from 20 to 25 July in Zhukovsky, near Moscow. All events connected to MAKS-2021 will be organized under strict requirements to counter the spread of the coronavirus infection (COVID-19).
