A special court in Jammu has levied charges against terrorists turned politician and the now the current chief of Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF) – Yasin Malik and six others in a case involving the killing of Indian Air Force (IAF) officer Squadron Leader Ravi Khanna and three others in 1990.
“You by doing all the afore referred criminal acts in furtherance of the execution of earlier hatched deep-rooted criminal conspiracy among you and co-accused of the case as detailed in the police charge-sheet of the CBI have prima facie committed offences,” the TADA court observed, according to ANI.

The court had earlier noted that Yasin Malik, Ali Mohammad Mir, Manzoor Ahmad Sofi alias Mustafa, Javed Ahmed Mir alias Javed Nalka, Nana Ji alias Saleem, Javed Ahmad Zargar and Showkat Ahmed Bakshi prima facie have committed the offence.
The JKLF has been responsible for illegal funnelling of funds for fomenting terrorism in Kashmir Valley. It has been actively involved in raising funds and its distribution to Hurriyat cadres and stone-pelters to fuel unrest in the Kashmir Valley as well as for other subversive activities.

The organisation was also involved in the kidnapping and killing of Ravindra Mhatre, an Indian diplomat posted the UK, in 1984. A week later, India executed Maqbool Bhat, a JKLF activist, who had been sentenced to death. In March 2019, the Indian government banned the JKLF under anti-terror law.
Malik, the chief of JKLF is also accused of planning the kidnapping of Dr Rubaiya Sayeed, daughter of then Union Home Minister Mufti Mohammed Sayeed and sister of former Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti, for the release of five members of the JKLF.
